First lines of my last 20 stories:

1. John batted one of the airplane mobiles away from his face.

2. His scores echoed throughout the rink, loud and unintelligible like an airport announcement, canceling each other out while young skaters scoured the ice for thrown flowers and dropped gloves.

3. John never did this when the rest of the team was here, or if they had a complement of Marines.

4. The fire crackled, sending up a few sparks as a log shifted and settled deeper into the embers, hissing softly as it burned off the damp.

5. The door chain rattles as Dean throws the lock on the motel room.

6. The atmosphere in the bar was dense and smoky, smelling of beer, wood, and overripe sweat.

7. Atlantis was on full alert.

8. The rented apartment was tiny and came furnished with the kind of worn, blocky furniture that had the sole benefit of being almost indestructible, even with Dean in the house.
