It may surprise some to know that, yes, I do occasionally write Gen. It's accidental and I try to keep it to a minimum, but fanfic is a bit like breeding orchids. Sometimes you get unexpected results.

I'm purring over the huge pile of fics I've amassed over the last five years. Also, I have two people I work with who are in fandom, but Harry Potter is the only fandom we all share. I've neglected the Harry Potter readers. (I still feel guilty about not finishing Reunion.)
One thing I love about Harry Potter is the magic. Sometimes I miss it. Science fiction demands a much higher level of plausibility, and there's a whimsical quality to a story with a pointless bit of magic added just for fun. :D
For example....
- Percy learning to dance with a coat-rack in Council of Obvious Edicts
( I still think the coat-rack has all the hard moves. )
- The obnoxious junkmail from Knockturn Alley in Primer to the Dark Arts
( If you miss this Event, you will <i>regret it the rest of your life. )
- The Equal Opportunity Employer vampires in First Signs of Magic: Hermione Granger (and the hot chocolate fountain)

- The cruel bubble traps in Hey You
( Ron felt like an insect trapped in an experiment gone badly wrong. )

( Ghost waiters floated trays about the room, conveniently see-through and not blocking his view of the door. )
- The Glamours (and Glamour fashions) used to disguise one's identity in the wizarding club scene in A Moment Of Sin
( Most everyone in the room wore Glamours to disguise their identities. You could tell by the slight shimmer as they moved. Glamours could never quite keep up with normal motion. )
- The deadly toaster in Cursed Artefacts for Sale
( Why Muggles can't simply hold their bread over a fire on a stick I'll never know. ) |

I blew off an entire day. *guilty grin*
I did reorganize the Harry Potter fics on my website. Make them easier to navigate, like my Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis pages.
I've linked the fan art and translations to each story page (s), so they're no longer sitting by themselves on the <href="http://www.icarus.slashcity.net/artpage.html">fan art</a> and translations pages but people can clickity-do-dah when they find the stories. Of course, since many links go straight to the fic, ideally I'd have them in the story itself, but one step at a time.
Of interest to (I imagine) no one but me: Fanhistory.com imported the publish dates of all my fics. This is something that I'd planned to do myself someday as a way to gloat look at the development of my writing style. (Also of interest only to me, and maybe dad.) Cool.

April 19, 2008. Seattle. A place you don't even get snow in January most years.
We had flakes the size of snowballs coming down over blooming magnolia trees, rhododendron and forsythia blossoms. It was really cool, and if I didn't know this said bad things about climate change (and possibly farming), I'd be delighted.
It still looked magnificent.
Thanks to the hard work and attention of my two lovely betas, dossier and rabidfan, Out Of Bounds is cruising. Also, I'm keeping my new rule "No Spamma-da F-list, man" and that has definitely opened up some time for writing. Also, it seems fewer people unfriend me. *snorts with laughter*
This week, three more scenes written.

One of my coworkers is an HP writer. Harry/Draco. Just starting out in fandom having only been exposed to ff.net so far.
We (anime fanfic author extraordinaire, katmaxwell, and myself) are hooking her up with an LJ, although I understand many HP people have fled to InsaneJournal. I'll point her towards Fiction Alley of course, heidi8, but I'm far out of the loop in Harry/Draco-land these days -- if I ever was in the loop.
Some questions for you all:
- Where's the HP porn these days?
- Where do you post your Harry/Draco fic?
- Where are the comms?
- Where's the porn?
- Who are the latest and greatest Harry/Draco authors nowadays?
- Who's writing the fine Harry/Draco and HP meta nowadays? (Yes, regan_v's great for meta, but she hates Draco.)
- Where are the beta readers because, no, although she's a writing tutor, she'd not heard there are beta readers out there.
- What classic Harry/Draco fics would you send her to? Yes, yes, I know I should know, but I figure you know better since I was more into Snape. And Harry/Ron. And Ron/Draco. And Percy.
Any advice for a new HP writer?

I wrote it in 2002, six years ago. (Oh my god, six years.) It's, um, very early work, writing-wise.
But-- it's still being favorited, friended, passed around, reviewed.
I love it. But I wonder what it is about that story.
So I can do it again. :D

Like I said earlier, I'm having a miserable day. A depressing day, in fact. No, I don't want to talk about it. No, there's nothing I can do about it.
I'm going to curl up in a ball and write. And hide. And not come out.
So I'm giving you: Comfort fic. Soft, fluffy happy stuff. Comic stories. Stories where there's never any doubt of a happy ending. The ones that make me feel good from beginning to end. After all, surely I'm not theonly onehaving a bad day?

Hermione took Rita home over the summer but Rita Skeeter still finds ways to get under her skin.

This one is hard to find on archives. Skinny Dipping isn't on a lot of sites because Harry is fourteen years old while Percy is eighteen. Yet it's not really chan since Harry isn't drastically younger or less mature than Percy and has none of the power issues of the genre. Instead it's gentle exploration... and there's that lake and teenage sneaking around....

Don't run from the weird pairing. This is probably the steamiest story I've ever written.
